Garlic, scientifically known as Allium sativum, is a root vegetable that originated in west and central Asia. This vegetable looks like a bulb which has several cloves in it. The cloves are the most commonly used part of the garlic plant and are typically composed of 8 to 20 individual teardrop-shaped cloves enclosed in a white, parchment-like skin.
